Most LA leases require the unit returned empty and broom-clean. Anything left behind (a couch, a mattress, bags of stuff) can be deducted from your deposit as removal and cleaning costs, often for far more than it would've cost to clear it yourself. An empty unit is the cheapest unit.
The move-out timeline
- 2–3 weeks out: list anything worth selling and set a hard sell-by date.
- 1 week out: book your clear-out for moving day or the day after.
- Moving day: movers take what's going; the crew clears everything left.
- Walk-through: hand back an empty, broom-clean unit.
