Short answer
An apartment cleanout (a move-out, a turnover, an inherited unit, or just years of accumulation) means clearing the furniture, appliances, and clutter down to an empty, broom-clean space. In LA the two things that actually shape the job are building access (elevators, insurance certificates, loading zones) and the items that can't ride in a junk truck (hazardous materials). A one-bedroom cleanout is a flat $455. The price is set and shown before you book.
When do you need an apartment cleanout?
An apartment cleanout usually comes up in one of four situations: a move-out where you're clearing what you're not taking, a landlord turnover between tenants, an inherited or estate unit that has to be emptied, or a downsizing where a lot needs to go at once. The approach is the same, the difference is just how much is going.
DIY or hire it out?
| Approach | What it involves | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| DIY + truck or dumpster rental | You load, haul, and pay dump fees over several days | A small unit, a vehicle, and time to spare |
| Best valueOne-visit crew (Junkline) | The crew clears everything in a single visit | You want it fast and done, from any floor |
What building access does an LA apartment cleanout need?
Building access is the detail that most often complicates an LA cleanout, so it's worth sorting before the day.
Check these with your building first
Many LA buildings require a booked freight-elevator window and a Certificate of Insurance (COI) before any crew can work, and street parking or a loading zone may need arranging. Larger buildings are also served by a private hauler (recycLA), not the city, so the free resident pickup usually isn't an option for apartments.
A good crew handles the COI and the elevator booking with your building, but flag it when you schedule so there's no day-of surprise.
What can't a junk-removal crew take?
Hazardous items go separately
Paint, solvents, motor oil, batteries, and pool chemicals can't be hauled with regular junk, in LA they go free to a S.A.F.E. Center. Set those aside before the crew arrives. Large electronics have their own free e-waste route.
What happens to everything you clear out?
Before anything heads to landfill, usable furniture and working appliances are donated where possible, and wood, metal, and e-waste are recycled. A cleanout shouldn't mean everything gets dumped, most of a typical unit can be diverted.
How much does an apartment cleanout cost, and how fast is it?
Cleanouts are flat packages by unit size, so a studio costs less than a two-bedroom, and you see the total before you book.
Often same-day
We run 8 AM to 8 PM and need about 8 hours to line up a crew, so a morning booking can happen the same day, and later bookings land the next day.
